Session Questions

Information Gathering Sessions

Instead of an Information Gathering Session (IGS), can I use a formal diagnosis from GenderGP/another provider?

Our system is based on informed consent. The purpose of the IGS and Capacity to Consent sessions is to confirm that you meet the ICD-11 criteria for gender incongruence and that you have the capacity to give informed consent to medical intervention.

An existing report will be helpful to a provider carrying out your consent session, but it doesn’t replace it.

Injection Training Sessions

How do I get my Injection Training Session?

You can book your Injection Training Session when submitting your Treatment Recommendation request. The nurse will be in contact with you to arrange a convenient time for your appointment.

If you have yet to book a session, you can schedule this at your convenience here.

I couldn’t complete my Injection Training Session. What should I do?

If you couldn't complete your Injection Training Session for any reason, you can book another session at your convenience.

If you need to cancel for any reason, you can do so via your original booking email 48 hours before the session and receive a refund. Please note we can only refund a session when you cancel 48 hours prior, as the provider has to be paid for their time.

Counselling Sessions

What if I want to book a counselling session?

Counselling is entirely optional and it's available for you at any time or stage in your transition. Just book a counselling session through our Directory, choose your counsellor, and your desired time slot.

Remember, counselling is only there to help you and support you, never to judge you. It can help you, or your family or friends, with any struggles you may have.

Session Issues

What happens if my query during a session requires escalation to the development team?

If your query needs support from the development team, whether as a service request, feature request, or a request for an update to the Knowledge Base, please allow 7 to 10 business days for action. During this time, our development team thoroughly reviews, assesses, and addresses your request.

I had an issue with my session/session provider. What should I do?

All providers on our Directory are hand-selected to ensure they bring you the best possible service. We carefully review their competency, understanding, knowledge, empathy, and qualifications to strive for the highest service standards.

However, we understand that sometimes people may not be a good fit for one another. If you had a negative experience, we are truly sorry for that.

As all providers are independent and independently responsible for the services they provide, we recommend contacting the provider directly to discuss any issues or problems you encounter. You can request their email address during a session or see it on your booking link.

My query wasn’t answered in my Quick Chat Session. What should I do?

While all session providers are equipped with extensive knowledge, information, guidelines, and service updates, there may be questions they’re unable to answer — they’re human, after all.

To ensure consistency, accuracy, and availability of information, we’ve introduced various automated features. These enhancements include our Knowledge Base.

If you’re dissatisfied with your session, please discuss this directly with the provider, as they work independently. You can request their email address during the session and it's provided with your booking link. Please note that we’re unable to provide any refunds for completed sessions. Any refund requests or concerns should be addressed directly with the provider.

My session link hasn’t arrived. What do I do?

The session link is located inside your booking confirmation email. You’ll need it to access your video consultation via Google Meet at the scheduled time.

If you don’t see your booking confirmation email in your main inbox, please look in your Spam/Junk folder. Sometimes our emails can hide in there, so we recommend that you mark us as a "Safe Sender" in your email preferences to ensure we reach your main inbox right away.

Surgery Referral Sessions

How do I prepare for a surgery referral session? What happens in a surgery referral session?

During the session, the professional will listen to your life story and your gender transition journey so far, including your medical transition. Remember, this session is not a test! Simply provide your information and use the session to ensure all your questions are answered.

The professional will assess your understanding of your decision to undergo gender-affirming surgery, but the medical details and specific choices regarding the procedure should be discussed with your chosen surgeon. Use this session wisely to ensure you feel ready and well-prepared to proceed.

I have been told I need two signatures for my surgery referral letter. What should I do?

For some clinics and certain procedures, you may be required to obtain two separate referrals from different professionals. Always double-check this information with your chosen clinic or surgeon, so you can ask for recommendations during your session if needed.

Who will sign my surgery referral letter?

The professional you meet with will be fully responsible for signing your referral letter. This person has been selected according to the high standards of GenderGP and is listed in the Directory. The professional will be properly registered with their local professional body, such as a psychology or medical association, and will be a member of WPATH, which is considered the gold standard in this field.

Both you and the surgeon will be able to contact the professional directly in case you need any assistance or clarification.

Gender Marker Letters

How do I get a Gender Marker Letter?

Here at GenderGP, we now offer members and non-members the ability to book a Gender Marker Letter Consultation for £55 (electronic signature) or £75 (wet signature sent via post). The letter will be sent to you as the result of the session, as long as the doctor deems it appropriate to do so. You can also purchase a wet signature gender marker letter as part of your Transition Pack for £50. Wet signature gender marker letters take up to two weeks to arrive via post.

Who will sign a Gender Marker Letter?

Your Gender Marker Letter, which will be sent to you after your Gender Marker Letter Consultation Session, will be signed by the doctor who authorises the letter after the session ends. Please note that while the signing doctor will be registered in the EU, it won’t be signed by a UK-registered doctor due to barriers to trans care in the country.

You can opt for an electronic signature from the authorising doctor (£55). Alternatively, if you’d like a wet signature, the letter will cost £75 and we’ll send it to you via post.

How long does it take to get a Gender Marker Letter?

You can book a Gender Marker Letter Consultation Session through GenderGP. How long it takes to receive your letter after approval depends on which signatory option you purchase.

If you purchase the electronic signature option, your letter will be sent to your email within 24 hours. If you book the wet signature option, your letter will arrive by post within two weeks.

What do I do if my Gender Marker Letter is refused?

We understand your frustration and are here to help. We aim to provide a comprehensive support letter, but we can’t guarantee that it will be accepted by all authorities. Requirements for gender marker change documentation can vary significantly between different authorities, and even among individuals working within those authorities.

We recommend checking with your local passport office or relevant agency to confirm the document requirements before purchasing.

Neither we nor the Providers on our Directory are liable for external agencies accepting our letters and can’t issue refunds once we’ve provided a service.

If you need a bespoke Gender Marker Letter, we offer a Gender Marker Letter Session. During this session, you can specify the letter’s contents, allowing us to tailor it to your needs. We’re committed to helping you get the documentation you require.

What information will be shared in a Gender Marker Letter?

A Gender Marker Letter confirms that you fulfil the criteria for Gender Incongruence according to the ICD-11 classification and HA60 “Gender incongruence of adolescence or adulthood”. It states that you wish to update your legal documents to support and affirm your gender identity.

It also confirms that the change of gender markers is intended to be permanent, supporting your application to change your gender marker within official documents.

How much does a Gender Marker Letter cost?

It depends on whether you want an electronic signature or a wet signature (which we’ll need to send to you via post), and if you have a session or not.

The cost of a session that results in a letter with an electronic signature is (£55). If you’d like a wet signature, the cost of the session is £75.

You can also get a wet signature gender marker letter when making a Transition Pack Request for £50. This does not include a session.

What do I do if my Gender Marker Letter doesn’t arrive?

Electronically Signed Gender Marker Letter
You can expect to receive this within 24 hours of your session. If it doesn’t arrive, please contact your session provider. You can find their email address in your Google Meet booking confirmation. Your session provider will then be able to contact the doctor to arrange for this to be resent to you.

Wet Signed Gender Marker Letter
Wet signed letters are hand signed by an independent doctor and sent via postal mail. The doctors are based in the EU, so you can expect to receive your letter within two weeks.

If it doesn’t arrive, please contact your session provider. You can find their email address in your Google Meet booking confirmation. Your session provider will then be able to contact the doctor to arrange for a payment link to be shared with you, once the re-issue fee is paid the letter will be resent to you.

If you ordered your letter through the Treatment Recommendation form and it doesn’t arrive within two weeks, please contact us for assistance via our chatbot or through your session provider, if you have a session booked.

How can I correct the spelling of my name on my letter?

Simply contact your session provider who can make the necessary change for you and re-issue your letter. If the error was on the information originally provided by you and your letter is hand signed and posted, you may be required to pay a postage fee for this to be re-issued.

Do I have to have my camera on for my session?

Only for the Information Gathering Session (IGS) and Capacity to Consent sessions.

Some doctors, psychologists, and counsellors may ask the person to have their camera turned on but this isn’t necessary for Quick Chats.
