Do I need to have any blood tests before I start with GenderGP?
If you're fit, healthy, and ready to transition, we won't need blood tests from you at the beginning. There are only a couple of exceptions:
- If you want to use spironolactone as your antiandrogen, you'll need to provide a blood pressure reading and a potassium blood test (part of a kidney function check).
- If you want to have cyproterone as your antiandrogen, you'll need to have a liver test.
If you want to start with a different antiandrogen while you wait for your blood tests, that's fine.
Note: To use the finger prick test, you need to be 16 or older and not taking (or want to start) spironolactone. Vitall, the service provider, will send your blood test results directly to your email address.
If you're taking (or want to start) spironolactone, you'll need a venous blood sample. You can get this through an online blood test service of your choosing, through your GP if they're willing to help, or at a private clinic/hospital.
