Finasteride is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor that works by blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that develops and maintains male characteristics. Finasteride reduces levels of DHT, which can slow or prevent hair loss and reduce the growth of facial and body hair.
Because Finasteride blocks the action of testosterone, it is not recommended for people who are masculinising.
Dose and Administration
Finasteride is taken orally as a 1 mg tablet daily.
