What is an electronic token and how does it work?
An electronic token, delivered by email or SMS, contains your prescription information. You'll be given a Token ID (a unique ID) to give your chemist. They can download the prescription by confirming it's you with the details on the prescription.
Important Note: These tokens are single-use only. If you use it and the chemist doesn’t dispense for any reason, you can’t re-use it. Before they open your prescription, please make sure your chemist has a stock of the medication and that they're happy to dispense it to you.
My Clynxx electronic token was opened by the pharmacist. It shows as dispensed, but they didn’t give me my medication. What should I do?
Now that your electronic token has been opened, it’s invalid. To get a new prescription, you’ll need to submit another Treatment Recommendation request.
You’ll need to make payment again, as this is what pays the independent prescriber. We aren’t responsible for pharmacy stock levels, individual pharmacy rules and procedures, or a medication type/dosage not being available in your local area.
Always check with your pharmacist to ensure they’re happy to dispense and have stock before presenting them with your electronic token. You can show them the medication prescribed to you on your Treatment Recommendation to allow them to confirm this before you hand over your prescription.
My pharmacist said they can’t dispense an electronic prescription for a Schedule 4 Controlled Drug like testosterone. What can I do?
In the UK, prescriptions for Schedule 2, 3, and 4 Controlled Drugs can be dispensed using an electronic prescription. Testosterone is considered a Schedule 4 Controlled Drug.
GenderGP and Clynxx follow all the regulations set out in Human Medicines Regulation (2012) and our prescriptions also follow the guidance set out in Misuse of Drugs Regulation (2001).
In this case, the pharmacist is mistaken. Point them in the direction of the above guidance and that should set things straight.
What’s an electronic FreeRX prescription and how do I use it?
An electronic prescription is a digital version of a paper prescription. Instead of a physical copy, the prescription is sent to you electronically for dispensing at your chosen pharmacy. This eliminates the need for paper prescriptions, reduces the reliance on delivery services, and streamlines the prescription process.
After the prescriber approves and signs your prescription, you will receive your electronic prescription through both text and email. When you receive your prescription:
- Visit your chosen pharmacy, and provide the pharmacist with the website address https://clynxx.uk/freerx.
- Give the pharmacist your date of birth and the Token ID associated with your prescription.
- The pharmacist will access your prescription and determine if they can dispense your medication.
- If they can, they will mark the prescription as dispensed, ensuring it can’t be dispensed by another pharmacy.
- If they aren’t able to dispense the prescription due to stock unavailability or any other reason, they will advise you to take your prescription to a different pharmacy.
Will my personal information be safe with electronic prescriptions?
Yes, electronic prescriptions are designed with security in mind.
All prescription information is encrypted and securely transmitted within our prescribing software. Additionally, electronic prescriptions are subject to strict data privacy regulations, ensuring that your personal information is protected.
You can read GenderGP's Privacy Policy here.
Will all pharmacies accept electronic FreeRx prescriptions?
The majority of pharmacies in the UK accept private electronic prescriptions. We recommend that you check with your chosen pharmacy ahead of time.
In the EU/EEA, pharmacies are generally required to accept electronic prescriptions issued by healthcare professionals who are authorised to do so within the relevant country.
There is some variation in the acceptance of electronic prescriptions across different countries and pharmacies. We recommend that you contact your chosen pharmacy to confirm if they can accept electronic prescriptions.

Can I get a prescription for non-HRT related medications through GenderGP?
Our Doctor Consultations are available for booking at your convenience. During these sessions, you can speak with an independent doctor about any aspect of your healthcare. You can also request a bespoke prescription during the session, which the doctor can write for you at their discretion.
I had a bespoke prescription last time. How do I get a repeat?
If your bespoke prescription was previously issued during a consultation with a doctor on our Directory, this likely occurred because the medication you desired wasn’t available through our Treatment Recommendation form.
You will likely need another Doctor Consultation to get a repeat prescription.
Can I print my FreeRX electronic prescription sent to me via Clynxx?
No. Members shouldn't print or download their electronic prescription received in the email/text, as this will invalidate their prescription. You'll incur an extra charge when requesting a replacement.
Electronic prescriptions can ONLY be opened and printed by the pharmacy of your choice. A pharmacy can print or download the prescription following the steps in the email that was sent to you.
Can I learn more about the e-prescription service Clynxx?
You can learn more about our prescribing platform, Clynxx, by visiting the Clynxx website.
