Paper Prescription Questions

Can I get a paper prescription?

Yes, you can. It's best to check with your local pharmacy that they are comfortable in receiving private prescriptions from EU doctors for gender-related medication. Many pharmacies are anxious and ill-informed which can lead to refusals.

There is a £20 surcharge for a paper prescription to cover our added processing costs.

Where will you deliver my paper prescription?

Your paper prescription will be sent to the name and address provided in your account details.

If you want to have it delivered to an alternative address, please specify this in your Prescription Request using the delivery details field.

How long is my paper prescription valid?

If you already have your paper prescription, you'll be able to use it until its expiry date (printed on the prescription).

Paper prescriptions are valid for six months from the date of issue except for testosterone prescriptions, which are valid for 28 days from the date of issue.

Does the paper prescription include my civil registration number?

Yes, it does. We collect this on the Treatment Recommendation request form and add it to the prescription.

Please enter your civil registration number in this box on the form every time you order a new prescription.

How long will I have to wait to receive my paper prescription?

Paper prescriptions are usually delivered within two weeks. It takes us between one and three working days to process your request and up to 10 working days for delivery.

We recommend you submit repeat prescription requests when you have a four week supply remaining. This way, you'll have a buffer so that you don’t run out of medication between requests.

What happens if my paper prescription doesn’t arrive? What should I do?

Please submit another application as we’ll need to resend the prescription.

You’ll have to pay the fee again, as this is what pays the doctor and the postage. We aren’t responsible for failed delivery on the part of the postal service.

Please note that this service is provided by a third party. For letters, prescriptions, or any other documents sent via any postal service, GenderGP shall not be held liable for any loss, damage, delays, or non-delivery of such items. If you have waited 14 days or more then you might consider your item to be non-delivered. In this case please resubmit your Treatment Recommendation request, making payment for the relevant fees. Be sure to double check the address details provided to us before submitting your request.

My paper prescription has been lost, stolen, or damaged. What should I do?

If you need another prescription, as yours has been lost, stolen, or damaged, you should submit another Treatment Recommendation request.

You’ll need to pay the fees again, as this is what pays the independent prescriber and the postage of paper prescriptions. We aren’t responsible for loss or damage during delivery via the postal service.

If your prescription has been stolen, we recommend making a police report.

I paid for a paper prescription. I’d like an electronic prescription token instead. What should I do?

To request an alternative prescription format, please submit a new Treatment Recommendation request. Ask for a referral to an independent prescriber and select the electronic token option.

You will need to make payment for the referral fee again at the end of the form, as this is a new referral to the prescribing doctor. We can’t refund your paper prescription fee as this will have begun being processed as soon as your original request was submitted.

Can I get a prescription for non-HRT related medications through GenderGP?

Our Doctor Consultations are available for booking at your convenience. During these sessions, you can speak with an independent doctor about any aspect of your healthcare. You can also request a bespoke prescription during the session, which the doctor can write for you at their discretion.

I had a bespoke prescription last time. How do I get a repeat?

If your bespoke prescription was previously issued during a consultation with a doctor on our Directory, this likely occurred because the medication you desired wasn’t available through our Treatment Recommendation form.

You will likely need another Doctor Consultation to get a repeat prescription.
