Adjusting Spironolactone Doses

When adjusting your spironolactone dose, your progress, preferences and any potential side effects should be taken into account. 

Using your blood test results, here are our recommendations for adjusting your dose:


Testosterone is less than 3 nmol/L

If your Blood Pressure (BP) is low, there is no need to increase the dose of Spironolactone.

If your BP is low, you may be recommended to decrease the dose or change your blocker.


Testosterone is less than 3 nmol/L and BP is normal

Consider increasing the Spironolactone dose.


Testosterone is greater than 2.9 nmol/L and BP is low

You may be recommended to decrease the dose or change your blocker.


Testosterone is greater than 2.9 nmol/L and BP is normal

Consider increasing the Spironolactone dose.
